Digital distribution of films could mean better quality in visuals and sound during our film going experience. I ask the question, does it mean lower prices? According to the Motion Picture Association of America this could mean a savings of up to $900 million. I think that should mean a savings for the moviegoer as well. Here is the problem, expensive equipment for theater owners, maybe the studios should consider paying part of the costs, since they are saving so much.
James Cameron is all over this, his CGI/live-action feature Battle Angel is slated to release mid-2007 and is designed with 3-D techniques created specifically for digital projection.
Representatives of Hollywood’s top movie studios say they have agreed on technical specifications that will make it easier to distribute and display movies digitally. Check out the details at Wired.
