- Title: White Collar – Ancient History

When Peter (Tim DeKay) uncovers a possible connection to a recent string of museum robberies and Neal’s (Matt Bomer) old friend Alex (Gloria Votsis) he asks Neal to suss out if she’s involved, which of course she is. While searching for the identity of the mastermind behind the crimes Peter and Mozzie (Willie Garson) become inexplicably trapped in Alex’s bathroom and Neal attempts to schmooze the truth from her downstairs.
Despite almost getting caught by Alex, Peter is able to identify the man who hired her as Greece’s new General Secretary for Culture and Tourism who is looking to commission thieves to return cultural treasures to the motherland. When Neal discovers Alex is only taking the job because the Secretary let her out of prison for her cooperation, Neal agrees to help free her from her recent circumstances as the first step in trying to make up the distrust and fallout over the loss of the Nazi treasure.
However, the second time Alex screws up a theft and mysteriously disappears leaving Neal to hold the bag and collared by the New York Police, Neal knows something has gone wrong. Peter and Neal realize far too late that Alex has masterfully played them both and taken a treasure, that as she puts it, Neal owed her. It’s great to see Votsis return, but I am a little saddened by the distrust and the melancholy tone of Alex’s appearance which leaves little to no room for her to show up again anytime soon.
In the episode’s B-story Mozzie is less than thrilled with the trust Neal is showing in Sam (Treat Williams) and finds himself bonding with Peter over their mutual distrust. Peter orders Diana (Marsha Thomason) to stay on Sam’s tail until he decides what he wants to do with Neal’s off the book investigation into his father’s case. As to what is on the mysterious video tape Ellen left for Neal, and what if any lingering effects of Neal and Peter’s trust issues, we’ll have to wait at least another week to find out.
