The final two episodes of the first, and perhaps only, season of the witty and heartfelt We Are Lady Parts revolve around the release and backlash of social media influencer Zarina’s (Sofia Barclay) article about the band that no only outs Amina (Anjana Vasan) to her friends but also paints the group as anti-Muslim radicals leading to a crushing wave of social media hate landing on the band. The fact that article hits on an already emotional day for Saira (Sarah Kameela Impey) leads to the implosion of the band, Amina returning to her pre-Lady Parts life, and leaving Momtaz (Lucie Shorthouse) to pick up the pieces and try to put the band back together.
Originally as a six-episode mini-series, it’s unclear whether the We Are Lady Parts will return for more episodes. Thankfully, the season’s final episode wraps up the storylines as Saira learns how to apologize, and takes a step trying to reconnect to her family, and Amina stops trying to be the girl her best-friend Noor (Aiysha Hart) wants her to be and accepts that Lady Parts, despite the drama, offers what she wants far more than the parade of would-be husbands her friend throws at her (including a rather clever fantasy sequence involving a game show). And despite the kneejerk reaction to the article by many, the band finds a loyal fanbase that discovered their music and, like me, wants to see much more of Lady Parts.
