As the world continues to spin after the battle, the finally united Witcher (Gudmundur Thorvaldsson) and Ciri (Freya Allan) travel towards his home in search of respite and a safe place for the Witcher’s charge. What they find is a massacred town and his old friend Nivellen (Kristofer Hivju) transformed by a curse the truth of which becomes a bit complicated for both Geralt and Ciri after meeting the monster responsible (Agnes Born). The episode works in introducing Ciri to Geralt’s world and way of thinking while also showcasing just how unprepared the Witcher is for his new responsibilities.
Much of the rest of the episode involves Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) who Geralt believed dead but has been taken prisoner by Fringilla (Mimi Ndiweni) but who will have her own problems by the end of the episode. After waiting so long to pair Geralt and Ciri, and putting them in the middle of a little mystery, the episode suffers every time it leaves to check in on Yennefer up until some new trouble inevitably finds her.
