- Title: The Wheel of Time – The Dragon Reborn

“The Dragon Reborn” introduces the most interesting character of the show’s First Season, who sadly will be dealt with all too soon. Believing himself to be the Dragon reborn into this life, the powerful Logain Ablar (Álvaro Morte) has drawn an army of followers to his side. Captured by the Aes Sedai who are using all their power to keep him caged and hidden from his army, eventually Ablar will break free offering exactly the situation Liandrin Guirale (Kate Fleetwood) giving the more militant member of the group the ability to deliver justice to Ablar in the field rather than return him for trial.
While not the Dragon, and truly insane, Ablar gives us an example of what the women are so afraid of: a man with near limitless power and no conscious to control it (it’s actually an interesting gender reversal with the powerful women of the world telling the men in no certain terms what they can do while limiting the heights of what they might achieve). The various other characters take a back seat here for shorter adventures on the road, including Thom (Alexandre Willaume) falling further into darkness, as the series builds on the inner politics and disagreements of the Aes Sedai which will be further explored once they return home. But it’s Ablar, who gets himself magically castrated by the Aes Sedai by the end of the episode, who steals the show. Sadly, he’s in no position to offer much else over the remainder of the season.
