- Title: The Mentalist – White Orchids

After seven seasons and 151 episodes The Mentalist comes to an end. Since the death of Red John and the shuffling of the show’s core cast and basic set-up midway through the show’s Sixth Season The Mentalist has had its ups and downs. The show ends on a positive note with the wedding of Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) and Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney) and the close of the storyline involving the show’s latest (and least interesting) serial killer Joe Keller (Aubrey Deeker).
The wedding allows the show to bring back old faces like Lisbon’s brothers and former cast members Wayne Rigsby (Owain Yeoman) and Grace Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti), but the last episode is the mostly about new beginnings for Jane and Lisbon (whether they be in the FBI or elsewhere). After years of mourning his wife Jane is finally able to move on. After years of being unable to handle his antics Lisbon finally gives in. And after 151 episodes The Mentalist achieves a measure of happiness that doesn’t involve murdering a serial killer.
The Keller storyline is the episode’s weakest point, although the man’s determination to get revenge on Jane for faking psychic abilities and blowing up Keller’s house with them both inside allows for a humorous moment of the entire wedding party taking down the killer right before the ceremony. The death of Red John offered Jane peace but this finale offers our main character hope and the promise of tomorrow. It may not be one of the show’s best episodes but it works as a fitting farewell to the characters.
