In an episode that sees Simon (Max Lloyd-Jones), Owen (Arash DeMaxi), and Phoebe (Molly Kunz) struggling to find a new status quo all working together, Alec (Jesse L. Martin) is approached by an employee of a company which uses science-forecasting for predictive analysis who believes a train disaster is imminent. While the company’s owner is against any action which she believe might cause greater harm, Alec and the others look for ways to bypass the disaster which they discover someone close to the company is helping along.

While it ultimately doesn’t play into climax because someone with inside information was already messing with the scenario, “The Wrong Side of Maybe” raises some interesting questions about whether having information obligates someone to act on it. We get some flashbacks to some earlier experiments leveraged here, but in the end it’s Alec betting his life that prevents a catastrophe (much the horror of both his sister and ex-wife). The situation comes full circle presenting him with some damning evidence about some of the risks he’s been taking tying back to his opening lecture and offering a wakeup call for the professor.
