- Title: The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries – The Mystery of Witches’ Hollow
- IMDb: link
Throwback Tuesday takes us back to a Hardy Boys mystery from the late 70s series The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries. In an opening straight out of Scooby-Doo, Frank (Parker Stevenson), Joe (Shaun Cassidy), Callie (Lisa Eilbacher), and Chet (Gary Springer) drive around some dark and stormy woods in a van while discussing the mysterious legends about a local witch. On their way to visit Callie’s uncle, they find the man missing and the local sheriff (Brad Trumbull) not all that concerned even after finding the missing man’s bloody sleeve in the woods, someone breaks into the house, and an escaped puma on the loose.
Left to their own devices, and with the help of a young friend of Callie’s missing uncle, the boys discover theft and smuggling of materials in the nearby construction site. Setting the stage for what’s to come, the story features a group of meddling kids of indeterminate age who stumble on things adults aren’t willing to take seriously, at least at first. Feeling every bit a 70s TV-show shot on a budget with some cheap stunts and a rushed conclusion, the episode is notable as being the only to prominently feature Chet in the story and also the only script adapted from one of the Hardy Boys novels.
