- Title: The Flash – The Trap

With The Flash racing to its First Season finale in three weeks “The Trap” brings the battle between the Flash (Grant Gustin) and the Reverse-Flash front-and-center beginning with the discovery of Harrison Wells‘ (Tom Cavanagh) secret room within S.T.A.R. Labs, confirmation that he’s a time-traveler, and glimpses into various aspects of Barry’s future (not all of which he’s able to properly process). Comparing Cisco‘s (Carlos Valdes) dream to the reality Barry rewrote during his short jump backwards in time the group decides to set a trap for Wells hoping to recreate his confession of the murder of Barry’s mother before the group takes him down.
Along with several small revelations about Barry’s future as scientist, hero, and husband, “The Trap” also gives us insight into both Wells and Iris (Candice Patton) in a series of flashbacks following the accident. Iris’ memory will help trigger Barry’s future wife to make a startling discovery (for the second time) while Wells scenes continue to tease about how the Reverse-Flash is dependent on Barry’s mastery of the Speed Force without going into full details as to why the villain needs his arch-nemesis at full-power before destroying him and returning to the future. With all the secrets now out in the open it will be interesting to see the show move forward (with hopefully no steps back to rewrite the past again).
Despite all the revelations and confirmation of previous reveals, “The Trap” leaves viewers with several questions heading into the final episodes of the season (along with the promise of a previously-teased classic Flash villain finally getting his own episode next week). Given the connection between Wells and Eddie (Rick Cosnett) just how will their relationship play out, especially now that Iris can guess what secret Barry has been keeping from her for months? How long before Iris confronts and Barry confirms her suspicions about his red tights? And how long (next season?) before we see a new version of the Flash suit as is teased here (and which I’ve been vocally arguing for ever since the show’s pilot episode)?
