Picking up directly following the events of last season’s finale, The Blacklist begins its Second Season with Lizzie (Megan Boone) on the run with Reddington (James Spader) after being branded as a Russian spy, terrorist, and murderer. Relying on an old contact Red’s plan to hole-up in the city for weeks until the man hunt dies down, but after being betrayed he and Lizzie are forced to run far sooner than expected. Even with the help of a member of The Blacklist (Aaron Yoo) known for his ability to use social media to obscure real events under a haze of false information, only one member of the pair is able to make it out of the city.
“The Troll Farmer” sets the stage for a new status quo with Lizzie and Red united against the FBI with Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) leading the manhunt to find them. Liz’s decision to find sanctuary in the Russian Embassy by choosing to live the lie told about her suggests her situation will get no less complicated anytime soon. The season premiere also begins an ongoing B-story involving Dembe (Hisham Tawfiq) and the secret cabal who targets the man’s granddaughter to get their hands on Red’s right-hand man. With Red separated from Lizzie it will be interesting to see where he puts his time and effort once he learns of Dembe’s kidnapping.
