While sending Lizzie (Megan Boone) and the FBI after an unusual smuggler who specializes in procuring dead wives for Chinese families hoping to give thier lost sons peace in the afterlife, Reddington (James Spader) enlists the help of Navabi (Mozhan Marnò) to gaslight a member (James A. Stephens) of the Cabal which Reddington belives has hired the latest member of The Blacklist to smuggle a weapon into the United States. It turns out Red is only half right and he may already be too late to stop what the Cabal has planned.
Given the niche market Quon Zhang (Ron Yuan) provides for the episode is one of the more bizarre of the season. The revelation that the Cabal has moved forward their 2017 timeline and brought their agent into the U.S. also suggests this will be the focus of the season’s final two episodes (and perhaps beyond?).
Despite Reddington’s warnings and refusal to answer her questions Lizzie and Tom (Ryan Eggold) continue to search for answers about her mother whose very existence Red seems to have gone to great trouble to hide from any prying eyes, especially hers. Whatever the connection is between Lizzie and Reddington it seems that the identity of her mother is the key to unlocking the mystery.
