Picking up immediately following the events of the last episode with Reddington (James Spader) bleeding out in the middle of the street, the latest episode of The Blacklist will finally reveal the Fulcrum and motivate Lizzie (Megan Boone) to finding out more about Red and her connect to him. Her actions over the course of the episode will help save the life of her mysterious benefactor but also lead to the FBI agent into making some powerful enemies likely to seek some revenge.
Even with Reddington unconscious and bleeding to death, “Leonard Caul” reminds us of the power and reach of the man as his network is able to pull in a skilled medical team at a secure site in minutes. The episode gets its name not from a member of The Blacklist the FBI is hunting but a former CIA operative (Ned Van Zandt) who completely disappeared off the radar when he left the government. His connection to the Fulcrum will give Lizzie the leverage she needs to stop the third assassination attempt on Reddington in less than a day.
“Leonard Caul” once again teases us with the idea of a father/daughter relationship between Lizzie and Reddington which the offhand comment of the Director (David Strathairn) about Lizzie’s mother seems to back-up. Whether or not the pair are biologically linked it’s obvious Red feels some familial responsibility to Lizzie and has watched her carefully for decades before insinuating himself into her life. With Lizzie enlisting the help of Tom (Ryan Eggold) to discover the truth we’ll see how far Red’s secrets go and just how good a job he’s done of burying the truth.
