The arrival of Valentine’s Day makes Leonard (Johnny Galecki) work to plan the perfect night out for Penny (Kaley Cuoco) who has never had a good Valentine’s Day, but things go quickly downhilll when they are joined by Howard (Simon Helberg) and a grmpy overworked Bernadette (Melissa Rauch). Discovering that one of Penny’s former cheating boyfriends and her friend who he dumped Penny for, are dining (and getting engaged) in the same restaurant only further complicates the evening.
Sheldon (Jim Parsons) enlists the help of his research assistance Alex (Margo Harshman) to find the perfect gift for Amy (Mayim Bialik), but Amy surprises Sheldon by giving him the perfect Valentine’s Day date (at least for befuddled wackadoodle scientist). Raj (Kunal Nayyar) and Stuart (Kevin Sussman) decide to throw an increasingly awkward party for lonely singles at the comic book store.
The episode has several good moments including Alex showing off the various presents she found for Sheldon to give Amy, Sheldon’s actual thoughtful gift to his girlfriend (an it’s increasingly annoying consequences for Amy), and an honest (and pretty sweet) moment between Leonard and Penny that addresses her relationship issues and his willingness to give her the space she needs.
