After finishing their trip to NASA, Howard (Simon Helberg) takes Sheldon (Jim Parsons) on a surprise visit home. However, when the scientist discovers his mother (Laurie Metcalf) sexual adventures in the middle of his childhood living room it prolongs the bonding time between the two scientists leading to Sheldon confronting, and eventually accepting, what he witnessed.
In the episode’s B-story Raj (Kunal Nayyar) tricks the rest of the gang into an impromptu murder mystery night involving the murder of Stuart (Kevin Sussman). As they mostly go through the motions playing along with the time travel murder of the comic shop owner which Leonard correctly identifies as seeming all too familiar with The Terminator, the charade brings up a sore subject of how strong their various relationships are – particularly that of Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco).
While the main story offers Sheldon an opportunity to continue to grow in a way the Season One version of the character could never have done, most of the comedy (other than the barbs between mother and son) come from the murder mystery night while offering a look a serious topic as well dealing with the likelihood of Penny and Leonard’s relationship lasting for 20 years and beyond.
