Amy (Mayim Bialik) tries to get Sheldon (Jim Parsons) to confront his issues with closure after watching her boyfriend throw a fit when he learns that one of his favorite shows, Alphas, has been cancelled and now he will never know how the season cliffhanger was meant to be resolved.
Worried that his girlfriend isn’t passionate about enough things in her life, Leonard (Johnny Galecki) tries to get Penny (Kaley Cuoco) to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer. When that meets with mixed success, Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) tries to find something else that her friend might be passionate about leading Penny to come to an understanding about the state of her life and her love of Leonard and her friends. In the episode’s other storyline, Raj (Kunal Nayyar) discovers Lucy’s (Kate Micucci) blog and tries to butch things up after learning she thinks he’s feminine (with mixed results).
Although the conclusion of Penny’s story is sweet, the highlights of “The Closure Alternative” are the various experiments Amy subjects Sheldon to (songs without the last word sung, games unfinished, and an impressive display of dominoes the scientist is not allowed to knock over) in order to try and recondition her boyfriend to accept not everything will end in the way that he wishes. Although Amy believes she has made real progress, the audience knows better as Sheldon spends the episode’s final moments finishing every experiment Amy had begun in a mad dash for comforting closure.
Did anyone else think Amy was really cruel to Sheldon in this episode?
