DC Nation reboots Cartoon Network’s Teen Titans more in the style of the recent DC Nation shorts. The first episode includes two new adventures for the team. The new series, like the previous shorts, is certainly geared to younger audiences with goofier storylines involving the group dynamic (and not a whole lot of actual crime fighting).
In “Legendary Sandwich” Raven (Tara Strong), wanting a little privacy to enjoy “Pretty Pretty Pegasus,” sends her annoying teammates on a quest to find the scattered ingredients of the greatest sandwich ever made. While Cyborg (Khary Payton), Starfire (Hynden Walch), and Beast Boy (Greg Cipes) each fight of sandwich guardians, Robin (Scott Menville) fights off boredom while wasting most of a day at the local supermarket trying to retrieve the final ingredient – pretzel bread. Although far less action-packed, Robin’s story is the most fun of the threads (although even it is overshadowed by how adorable Raven becomes while enjoying her favorite cartoon).
In “Pie Bros” Beast Boy and Cyborg celebrate their love of pie while the group prepares for Cyborg’s birthday. Beast Boy tries to find a way to afford the present that his best friend really wants by trying out various jobs including working at the local pie store which ends in an all-out pie fight with Cyborg. The story has a nice message for kids about thoughtful presents as well a food fight. High art it ain’t, but it is fun.
