- Title: Supergirl – Nevertheless, She Persisted

“She’s the champion of Earth.”
Supergirl closes out its Second Season with an action-packed season finale which wraps up the Daxamite invasion story arc, says farewell to one supporting character and offers the return of another. Fighting as the champion of Earth, first Kara (Melissa Benoist) is forced to take down Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) who Rhea (Teri Hatcher) exposed to Silver Kryptonite. Next, she’ll take on the Queen of Daxam one-on-one while her friends attempt to save as many people as possible from the Daxamite fleet attacking National City.
Offering two of the season’s bigger action scenes, and countless other shots of National City under attack, “Nevertheless, She Persisted” certainly doesn’t skimp on production costs for the finale. It’s an interesting choice, and one the comics have made from time to time, to have Supergirl actually more powerful than her cousin. Although Supergirl is forced to make a hard choice weighing the fate of the Earth vs. the man she loves, the episode still fits naturally into the character’s arc over the course of two seasons. Through it all, Kara remains the hopeful defender of Earth. Mon-El‘s (Chris Wood) departure, however long it might last, shouldn’t lead to Barry and Ollie style brooding (which The CW needs far less of). One final note, the episode makes the most of Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) in a smaller role here, first by playing on her attraction to Clark Kent and later with a single line which confirms she knows the truth about her former assistant while still understanding Kara’s need to keep it a secret from her mentor. I’m hoping whenever the show gets around to it that Lena (Katie McGrath) takes the news with equal grace.
