- Title: Supergirl – Dangerous Liaisons

While there is more family and relationship drama involved, “Dangerous Liaisons” is notable mostly for Lena (Katie McGrath) bartering a partnership with Malefic (Phil LaMarr) in order to move her mind-control work forward and the show finally coming back around to pick up the lose thread of Leviathan. The main threat of the week, the Doctor-Octopusish Rip Roar (Nick Sagar), will pull in both William Day (Staz Nair) and Andrea Rojas (Julie Gonzalo) into the Leviathan plot which has been on the back-burner since being teased in the final scene of Season Four. Although his attempts to flood the world would seem to clear Andrea of any connection to the secret organization, the final scene confirms she is indeed involved.
After a couple of shaky episodes, Supergirl gets back on track a bit here. Kara (Melissa Benoist) seems to have found a new ally at the Planet (especially now that Superman’s best-friend has apparently decided to return home) as well as finding the first loose string that may lead them back to Leviathan. I was surprised that the show so quickly sidelined Malefic, by using the Martian to build up Lena worked far better for me than the Martian brotherly squabbles. Rip Roar isn’t much of a villain, and the awkward nature in which Supergirl and her Martian pal save the world is a bit questionable, but it work as some foreshadowing about how blind people using Andrea’s tech can be as well as draw time away from the relationship drama of Nia (Nicole Maines) and Brainiac-5 (Jesse Rath).
