R2-D2‘s importance both to Anakin (Matt Lanter) and the Republic is highlighted in this two-episode arc when Anakin’s trap for General Grievous (Matthew Wood) fails losing both his ship and his astromech droid. Given that R2 contains battle plans and strategies key to the entire sector it quickly becomes a race as to who can get their hands on the droid first. It also leaves the Rebel general vulnerable as his replacement droid turns out to be working for Grievous (something it takes everyone far too long to figure out) and continues to put the Jedi in harms way.
While much of the two episodes deal with the search for R2 and the treasonous nature of R3-S6, culminating in a one-on-one battle between the astromech droids, the second-episode also allows Ahsoka (Ashley Eckstein) some time to shine as during the attempted rescue of R2 at Skytop Station she comes face-to-face with General Grievous. Although the young padawan is not a match for Grievous, Ahsoka manages to hold her own and lives to fight on another day as she and Anakin are able to reclaim R2 and divert any further disaster.
