After spending an inordinate amount of time in the safe embrace of Pabu, the two episode arc that ends Star Wars: The Bad Batch‘s Second Season has the squad seek for answers about the missing clones. The mission’s disastrous end is tipped off almost immediately in an awkward conversation at the start of “The Summit” between Phee Genoa (Wanda Sykes) and Tech (Dee Bradley Baker) which is only shoehorned in here because Tech won’t be returning. Sorry, Tech. But, hey, turns out Omega (Michelle Ang) has a sister (but not the blue one).
The mission involves infiltrating a secret meeting of Imperial scientists with the plan of tracking one back to the secret clone laboratory. Not a bad plan, but one that goes off the rails with the show shoehorning a Saw Gerrera (Andrew Kishino) appearance here where a far simpler explanation of the squad getting in over their heads would have worked fine. Speaking of bad decisions, although the injured squad make it off the planet, rather than return to the safety of Pabu they inconceivably decide to visit their sketchy former employer who warned them she would sell them out to the Empire. Guess what happens? She sells them out to the Empire! Sigh. While the show’s attempt to deliver an Empire Strikes Back-style cliffhanger at the season’s end, the convoluted manner in which it stumbles to get their leaves much to be desired.
