When Moloch‘s agent Ancitif begins haunting Captain Irving (Orlando Jones) through the possession of innocent townspeople and demanding the return of George Washington’s Bible by threatening the Captain’s daughter (Amandla Stenberg) it leads Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) and Abbie (Nicole Beharie) to doing a little more research on both the hidden mysteries of the bible and Sheriff Corbin’s (Clancy Brown) research on possession which reveals Jenny Mills (Lyndie Greenwood) was possessed by Ancitif as a teenager.
Talking with Jenny, Ichabod learns more about the sisters’ relationship and the lengths Jenny went through to prevent the demon possessing her to make good the threats to use Jenny as a vessel to harm Abbie. Despite taking his daughter and estranged wife (Jill Marie Jones) to a safe house with two officers (Michael Roark, Nicholas Gonzalez) and a priest (David Fonteno), Irving isn’t able to stop the demon from making good on its threat as it possesses Macey at sundown when the Captain is unable to produce the bible.
After illegally obtaining a lantern capable of removing the demon from Macey (a goofy concept that is hastily explained), Crane sets a trap for the demon with the help of the Mills sisters. The aftermath leaves the witnesses with questions about what they discover in the bible, the sisters closer than they’ve been in years, Moloch without one of his most powerful warriors, and Irving’s family aware of the darker side of the town known as Sleepy Hollow. The reconciliation between Jenny and Abbie makes me hopeful we’ll be seeing much more of Greenwood, but I do hope we’re done with possession episodes (at least for awhile).
