Throwback Thursday takes us back to the unsolved crimes of passion in the wealthy playground of Palm Beach, Florida. While Chris (Rob Estes) mulls over the possibility of moving in with his girlfriend (Kristen Cloke), he and Rita (Mitzi Kapture) investigate the murder of a nanny (Alina Arenal) where all evidence points to one of Rita’s oldest friends (Claire Yarlett) who suspected the nanny was sleeping with her husband (Franc Luz). Never trusting the husband, who initially seems to have an alibi for the crime, Chris and Rita search for evidence to not only prove the affair but also motive for the crime.
The episode is notable for Annie (Cloke) misreading Rita and Chris’ relationship and the follow-up discussion between the pair which lays out the basics for the friendship between the partners. Although Chris and Annie won’t make it long-term, the attempt at a deeper relationship offers a nice change of pace for the character. Therese Kablan guest-stars as one of the husband’s former trysts whose confirmation of their affair brings Chris’ closer to Rita’s suspicions of the husband which are eventually proven out (although some of the methods used to plant evidence at the crime scene seem a bit involved and awkward when they are hastily summarized at the end of the episode).
