- Title: Scorpion – Hard Knox

If the set-up for “Hard Knox” sounds familiar it’s because Scorpion has used nearly the identical template before. Tricked by a government official into what is obviously a very bad idea, Walter (Elyes Gabel) and his team are hired to break into Fort Knox to test out the facility’s security. And yes, despite being tricked into similar circumstances in the past, no one on the team questions the validity of their assignment. Of course while this is going on Walter works out his troubled relationship with Linda (Brooke Nevin) while the show continues to tease the a romance between Paige (Katharine McPhee) and Tim (Scott Porter) that no one (I’m betting this even includes the show’s writers) want to see happen.
What we actually see of Fort Knox is pretty underwhelming as is the effectiveness of the security force surrounding one of the most heavily-guarded spots in the United States. Even after the guards recover from being put to sleep (a la Goldfinger-style) there’s still not many on hand to offer more than token resistance for Walter and his team. How the team turns the table on the man who set them up is a nice touch, but for a heist episode set in Fort Knox events are rather bland. As for the subplots, poor Brooke Nevin leaves before we ever really get to know her in a storyline that suggests Walter may indeed make the worst boyfriend ever. The tiny flare up between Walter and Ralph (Riley B. Smith) is solved equally as quickly, and I am happy to see the show continuing to bring Ralph back into Scorpion’s adventures.
