Throwback Tuesday takes us back to Scooby Doo, Where Are You! for another mystery involving some meddling kids and their talking dog. An invite to their friend Sharon‘s (Stefanianna Christopherson) estate quickly turns into another case for Mystery, Inc. after the gang witnesses Sharon’s uncle Stuart (John Stephenson) enter the neighboring mansion only to return an old man. The odd sight is followed by the appearance of a the Ghost of Elias Kingston demanding the entirety of Sharon’s family fortune or others will meet the same fate as poor Stuart.
Although more simple than some of the ghosts and monsters of the show’s run, the look of the Ghost of Elias Kingston works well for the episode while letting the aging of Stuart show off his true power. Given the set-up, there’s really no surprise for the unmasking, but “What the Hex Going On?” is notable for the final plan to catch the ghost actually working (a first for the series). Several shots from the episode were used in the series opening and closing credits including the exterior of Kingston Mansion and the moving bookcase.
