Rookie Blue returns for its Sixth Season (with episodes technically shot for the second-half the show’s truncated Fifth Season) as Andy (Missy Peregrym) and Sam (Ben Bass) return from their romantic vacation to face new challenges. On their first night back Sam discovers Marlo (Rachael Ancheril) is four months pregnant with his child while Andy is attacked by a serial rapist in Traci‘s (Enuka Okuma) apartment (who was the attacker’s original target). To the surprise of no longtime viewer of the show, Andy and Sam’s romantic bliss certainly didn’t last long.
15 Division quickly mobilizes to track down the attacker who they connect to a series of crimes in the neighborhood. Ordered by the Sex Crimes Division to not speak of the crime to local residents, fearing it might spook the rapist before they can apprehend him, 15 finds their hands tied as the rapist continues to escalate the frequency of his attacks. Choosing to ignore the orders the team is able to prevent another woman from being assaulted, thanks to some smart investigation by Epstein (Gregory Smith), but are left with no clues to the perpetrator’s true identity or whereabouts leading to Oliver (Matt Gordon) getting his ass chewed out by his superiors.
“Open Windows” also introduces a transfer to the station in Juliet Ward (Erin Karpluk) who could have had a thing with Nick (Peter Mooney), in a plot point that’s given way too much time given the pair’s very limited knowledge of each other, and whom Chloe (Priscilla Faia) befriends, but whose true motives are going to cause new trouble for the entire Division going forward. Failing to catch the rapist after ignore orders also creates more pressure on Oliver (foreshadowing more trouble down the line?) while Diaz (Travis Milne) realizes how much his latest romantic hook-up could hurt his career.
