- Title: Rick and Morty – Rise of the Numbericons: The Movie

Well, that was certainly… a half-hour of television. In a move that can only be compared to South Park’s “Terrance and Phillip in Not Without My Anus” episode, Rick and Morty offer a full episode without Rick Sanchez instead focusing on war between Ice-T, now Water-T, and his Alphabetrians verus the Numbericons. To put it kindly, let’s just say “Rise of the Numbericons: The Movie” has all the tell-tale signs of something that looks like it was much more fun to make than to watch.
The episode is overfilling with inside jokes, gags, and puns, not leaving much room for actual story (or at least not a very interesting one) as the two waring cultures eventually come together to battle a larger threat. The production values are high for the episode, but when that’s one of the best things you can say about an episode of Rick and Morty you know something has gone terribly wrong. Morty‘s (Harry Belden) role is little more than perfunctory, although Mr. Goldenfold (Brandon Johnson) gets, by far, the largest role of any episode (even if his role could largely be written out with only the smallest change to the plot). While it may be possible to create a worse episode of Rick and Morty, let’s hope Dan Harmon and his team never decide to take that as a challenge.
