- Title: Pretty Little Liars – Game On, Charles

“Who is Charles DiLaurentis?”
Picking up directly following the events of last season’s finale, the Liars‘ first escape attempt fails leaving them at the mercy of A for another three weeks (with each Liar separately facing unseen punishment from their captor) before the group is brought back together for another attempt. Weeks without their loved ones has made Ezra (Ian Harding), Toby (Keegan Allen), Caleb (Tyler Blackburn), and Alison (Sasha Pieterse) desperate enough to attempt to use Alison as bait to find their missing friends. Although the episode ends with a victory over A and an end to their Liars‘ imprisonment, each is left with the scars of their time held hostage and unanswered questions about Charles DiLaurentis (who they believe is the true identity of their adversary).
“Game On, Charles” sets off the season’s “Summer of Answers” with offering the full name of their kidnapper, seeing the Liars and their friends out-think the local police yet again, and bringing an end to the captivity of Mona (Janel Parrish), Emily (Shay Mitchell), Aria (Lucy Hale), Hanna (Ashley Benson), Spencer (Troian Bellisario), and Sara Harvey (Dre Davis) whose connection to Charles may shed some light on the Liars‘ mysterious adversary.
I was right in guessing the identity of Charles, but it seems the Rosedale police will be pursuing the false lead of Andrew (Brandon Jones) as A for the foreseeable future. And with nearly two full seasons before the show comes to a close I’m going to have to wait some time to see if I also correctly guessed the actor who is playing the role (and who does make an appearance in this episode). In the meantime there seems to be plenty of mystery to solve: what happened to each Liar in the confines of their cells?, what is the exact relationship between Alison and Charles?, and now that his plans to entrap all the girls within his dollhouse have been foiled what will A’s next move be?
