- Title: Pretty Little Liars – Bedlam

With Mary Drake (Andrea Parker) choosing to return Hanna (Ashley Benson) to her friends the Liars are left questioning whether Jessica DiLaurentis‘ twin-sister is friend or foe. Choosing to place her trust in Mary, Emily (Shay Mitchell) uses the family connection to see an increasingly disturbed Alison (Sasha Pieterse) whose husband has cut-off all non-family visitors at the mental institution where he continues to torture his wife. And here the worm begins to turn as Emily and the rest of the Liars finally begin to question the true motivations of Elliot (Huw Collins) who the episode seems to confirm as the main brain behind A.D. and not Mary Drake.
Hanna’s latest trauma, and her inability to talk with either the police or doctors about it, leads the most impulsive Liar to make not one but two rash decisions concerning her future. And while Spencer (Troian Bellisario) momentarily appears to be the odd one out in the Spencer/Caleb/Hanna triangle, it’s Aria (Lucy Hale) whose decision to break up with the editor of her book in favor of her co-author lead to a tense situation between Ezra (Ian Harding) and Liam (Roberto Aguire) who guesses correctly about Aria and Ezra’s romantic history.
While inching only incrementally closer to answers, Emily’s refusal to give up on Alison does put strain on Elliot’s plans while showing the audience a division between Alison’s aunt and husband. As the emotions of her kidnapping begin to fade it will be interesting to see how long it takes Hanna to regret her decisions. Has the now job-less Spencer has she lost her boyfriend as well? And how will Mary’s second-guessing effect Elliot’s plans for his wife? And how does this all tie together in to the tease of three Liars digging a grave in the middle of the woods in the not-so-distant future?
