The final two episodes of the Second Season of Only Murders in the Building allow for Charles (Steve Martin) and Oliver (Martin Short) to deal with their own personal discoveries while Mabel (Selena Gomez) makes the pivotal connections to solve the case connecting Detective Kreps (Michael Rapaport) to the All Is Not OK in Oklahoma podcast. While our intrepid trio initially suspect Cinda Canning (Tina Fey) of being the mastermind behind the murder in order to create a more popular podcast, for the true brains behind the crime they need to look no further than her assistant Poppy (Adina Verson) who has her own twisted tale to tell.
There are some nice twists and turns in the final two episodes which mostly come out during the elaborate murder reveal party which takes advantage of the building’s various acting talent and also allows for the return of Alice (Cara Delevingne) as a red herring to catch the killer. While I think the episode goes a bit overboard in shocking twists and hastily connecting events rather than building on clues from earlier in the series, the finale gives each of the show’s three stars to shine including allowing Martin a death scene. The epilogue sets up the trio getting themselves roped into another murder investigation, this one on Broadway no less, with Charles’ co-star dropping dead on stage on opening night.
