- Title: Once Upon a Time – White Out

Emma (Jennifer Morrison) meets Elsa (Georgina Haig) when the Ice Queen’s search for her missing sister causes her to create an ice wall cutting off power to Storybooke and trapping a slowly-freezing Emma inside the ice with her. Eventually Elsa is able to get control of her powers and save Emma’s life, but the danger is far from over as the final scene reveals Elsa isn’t the only ice-powered magic user operating in Storybrooke (Elizabeth Mitchell).
The flashbacks of “White Out” take us back to David‘s (Josh Dallas) pre-Charming days as as shepherd and how his meeting with Anna (Elizabeth Lail) allowed him to stand-up to the tyranny of Bo Peep (Robin Weigert) and begin his hero’s journey. The episode also includes B-stories of Henry (Jared Gilmore) refusing to give up on Regina (Lana Parrilla) and Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) being drafted into the role of the town’s new mayor (since it was her curse that sent them back to Storybrooke this time).
“White Out” offers a few nice twists to the introduction of the Frozen characters to the Once Upon a Time Universe. The threat of the Snow Queen will no doubt make Elsa’s introduction to the town even frostier than expected and the choice to link Anna to both David’s and Rumpelstiltskin‘s (Robert Carlyle) past lays the foundation of a mystery for what really happened to Elsa’s sister (and did anyone else find that heartbeat more ominous than hopeful as we know one dark place where still-beating hearts reside in Storybrooke?).
