While Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison), Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin), and Regina (Lana Parrilla) resort to questionable means by pulling out the heart of a Lost Boy (Skyler Gisondo) and making him their slave to deliver a message to Henry (Jared Gilmore), Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) leads Prince Charming (Josh Dallas) on a fool’s errand whose true purpose is to save the life of Emma’s father. Although the cure works, magic always has a price and the Dreamshade‘s poisonous effects will only be put off as long as Charming never again leaves Neverland.
“Good Form” also includes flashback’s to Hook’s first visit to Neverland as the first mate of the flying ship captained by his brother (Bernard Curry) whose exposure to the Dreamshade teaches Hook an important lesson about trusting Peter Pan (Robbie Kay) and the deadly half-truths the boy king spins for his own amusement. The near instant death of his brother after leaving Neverland begins Hook’s new life as one of the world’s most notorious pirates.
Unable to tempt Hook into killing Charming in exchange for a trip off the island for both he and Emma, Pan tries another tact by informing his old adversary that Neal (Michael Raymond-James) is not only alive but in Neverland and waits to see what Hook will do with the news that his burgeoning romance with Emma may be over before it ever begins. As to Neal, the episode ends with the drugged captive being hoisted into the trees alongside another prisoner whose identity has yet to be revealed.
The latest episode plays on the themes of honor in both the current storyline and its flashbacks. Realizing she may be loosing her son to Pan, Emma agrees to a course of action Snow White cannot approve of. Hook, on the other hand, shows his honor by not being tempted by Pan’s offer and saving Charming’s life. As to the news of Neal’s true fate, however, we’ll have to see if that secret may be too much for the villain doing his best to try and reclaim the good man he was before the cursed day he first stepped foot on Neverland.
