Regina (Lana Parrilla) goes undercover to learn just what Ursula (Merrin Dungey), Cruella De Vil (Victoria Smurfit), and the recently resurrected Maleficent (Kristin Bauer van Straten) have in store for the people of Storybrooke. Realizing a trap when he sees one, Rumpelstiltskin (Robert Carlyle) still wonders if the villains can’t turn the Evil Queen’s recently broken heart to their advantage and bring the old Regina back for good. It’s this question that looms over the entire episode but isn’t directly answered… at least not yet.
Learning that her former friends are after the Author as well, Regina is faced with multiple tough choices including helping to abduct Pinocchio (Jakob Davies) whose older self may hold the answers the villains seek. The episode includes flashbacks from the Enchanted Forrest and the first meeting between a young Regina and a broken Maleficent whose fire for vengeance Regina helped reignite (both literally and figuratively) allowing the dragon to take vengeance on Aurora (Sarah Bolger) and her family.
Henry (Jared Gilmore) continues investigating the page August (Eion Bailey) removed from the book which he, and others, believe has something to do with the Author. This story combines with Regina’s undercover work in the final few moments as Rumpelstiltskin, who has artfully stolen back his dagger from Belle (Emilie de Ravin), reveals himself to Regina as well as his plan to learn everything August discovered about the writer of all their fates. Even if Regina hasn’t turned back into her old self, the villains are certainly wracking up small wins as the episodes comes to a close suggesting there might be some dark days for the town in the coming weeks.
