- Title: Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – Turn, Turn, Turn

Picking up after last week’s cliffhanger and playing on the events of HYDRA seizing control of S.H.I.E.L.D. in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team face confusion, deception, divided loyalties, and betrayal. The first challenge comes in the form of trying to find a way to trust May (Ming-Na Wen), who although isn’t an agent of HYRDA has spent the last several months spying on Coulson and reporting back to Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson).
As Coulson’s plane is diverted back to the Hub, Antoine Triplett (B.J. Britt) and Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) face their own problems as HYDRA tries to take over and it becomes more and more difficult to discern friend from foe. Victoria Hand (Saffron Burrows) plays a large role in the episode as the writers allow the character to used as a red herring for both the true identity of the Clairvoyant and an agent of HYDRA who is mistaken in believing Coulson to be working for the terrorist cult.
By the end of the episode John Garrett‘s (Bill Paxton) true loyalties will be revealed and Hand and Coulson will have control of the Hub. But Fury is still dead to the world, HYDRA will have taken control of key assets and bases around the world, and Coulson will have lost another friend (albeit to betrayal rather than death). The biggest turn of “Turn, Turn, Turn” occurs in the episode’s final scene which reveals the true intentions of another member of the team leading to big repercussions down the line as Coulson’s team will continue with their own mission unaware they have a traitor in their midst.
After long teasing the obvious feelings between Skye (Chloe Bennet) and Ward‘s (Brett Dalton) the episode finally begins to deal with their mutual attraction (although events at the end of the episode certainly add a new wrinkle to things – if everything is as it seems). Well-timed (except or those who haven’t yet seen the movie), the episode plays off the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier while taking the show in a new direction featuring Coulson and his team more in the role of rogues than soldiers for a now-defunct spy organization. Given the massive shift, and the various reveals the episode offers, it will be interesting to see where the show takes these characters from here.
