- Title: Legion – Chapter 16
- wiki: link
The race to find the Shadow King‘s (Navid Negahban) body continues in “Chapter 16” as both David (Dan Stevens) and Farouk discover its location. Getting there, however, proves to be a problem as David and Syd (Rachel Keller) find themselves in a desert with no end searching for a building that somehow continues to move. Meanwhile David and Farouk both begin laying chess pieces in place for the end game as both set various characters within Division 3 on specific paths.
As we’ve seen throughout the series, “Chapter 16” is highly stylized. This time that means use of split-screen in David and Syd’s wanderings, glimpses of Ptonomy‘s (Jeremie Harris) new surroundings, and delayed suggestions where the various chess pieces are concerned. Although the episode doesn’t move forward the plot all that much, the characters are only negligibly closer to the final confrontation than when we began, the episode does begin preparing for the eventuality while including some scenes of interest such as Syd admitting some hard truths about her boyfriend to both herself and Clark (Hamish Linklater) and an interesting allegory of Plato’s Cave laid over current smart phone culture. When the final battle over Farouk’s body begins, what choices will David make and how will those affect the futures of everyone involved? And will that choice be in service to the world or just his own selfish needs?
