- Title: Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness – Hometown Hero

When Mantis (Max Koch) receives an urgent message to return home to his village Po (Mick Wingert) decides to tag along. Once there the Dragon Warrior realizes why the Praying Mantis didn’t want any of his friends to occumpany him on his journey.
After being left at the alter by his fiance Hao Ming (April Hong), Mantis told his village he was the Dragon Warrior. Po agrees to go on with the charade, helping Mantis stick it to the girl who left him at the altar, but when Mantis once again falls in love with vixen Po is stuck in his role as dimwitted sidekick.
Although neither the writing nor the animation of the series matches that the the films there’s plenty to enjoy here including Po acting the fool with an eyepatch and crutch and soundly getting beaten by Hao’s new boyfriend and his sidekick (a whistling goat). The episode also includes a nice message about putting your friend’s well-being first and not settling for those who want to use you only for your prestige.
I’m happy to finally have seen an episode of the series and it’s good enough I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more. It may not be quite as awesome as Kung Fu Panda or Kung Fu Panda 2, but Wingert does an amazing job recreating Po’s voice, the theme song is one of the best I’ve heard in years, and it’s got charm and humor to spare. The awesome is back!
