- Title: Killjoys – Bangarang

Set sometime in the indeterminate future, “Bangarang” introduces us to a pair of bounty hunters traveling through space together to hunt down the prey assigned to them by an oversight organization known as RAC. We learn in the show’s pilot episode that somewhere along the way the more experienced Dutch (Hannah John-Kamen) decided to take John Jaqobis (Aaron Ashmore) under her wing and turn him from a small-time thief into a bounty hunter. In the first episode the show also introduces us to the show’s third regular character: John’s brother D’Avin (Luke Macfarlane), a former soldier with a bounty on his head who John is determined to help even if it puts both himself and his partner in danger.
John-Kamen and Ashmore make for a pair of likable leads and I respect the decision to make Dutch the far more experience member of the team (with a bizarre backstory involving the mysterious man who raised her into this life that neither of the brothers are aware of). The first episode mainly deals with getting D’Avin out of a jam (while possibly foreshadowing a romantic relationship between Dutch and John’s brother), introducing us to the larger world in which Killjoys takes place, and setting the stage for the show going forward with the trio now hitting space together as intergalactic bounty hunters. In terms of a pilot it succeeds on selling me on both the characters and set-up. Now I’m curious to see where Killjoys plans to lead them.
