- Title: Hawaii Five-0 – Na hala a ka makua

McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) and Danny (Scott Caan) are kidnapped by a con man (Michael Madsen) who escaped custody immediately following his conviction for murder and sentence to life in prison without parole. While driving the gun-wielding fugitive (who at one point even threatens to make Danny’s daughter listen to her father die) the pair learn that despite the prosecution’s open-and-shut case their abductor might actually have been framed.
The father-daughter episode plays on the themes of Danny’s relationship to Grace (Teilor Grubbs), who has gotten in trouble at school for the first time, as well as that of the fugitive whose daughter (Lyndon Smith) has never forgiven her father for all the years he spent in prison. With a little prodding from Kono (Grace Park), the young woman gives Five-0 a lead but she also decides to help a FBI agent (Matthew Glave) who is far from what he appears to be.
Madsen is good casting for the role and the scene with him bearing his soul and admiting his mistakes with his daughter to Steve and Danny in the back of the car are the highlight of the episode. Although McGarrett and Danny get the lion’s share of screentime, the episode is notable for Catherine‘s (Michelle Borth) return and the first time the full cast, with the exception of Max (Masi Oka) who doesn’t make an appearance, has been back together on a case in several months.
