- Title: Hawaii Five-0 – Hoku Welowelo

With the help of their old conspiracy pal Jerry (Jorge Garcia) and a Chinese spy (Elaine Tan) Five-0 investigate a Chinese spy satellite that crashed in the Pacific Ocean and the treacherous Chinese mercenary who killed three witnesses and plans to sell the data on the satellite (containing sensitive U.S. Naval troop movements) to the highest bidder. Despite not being able to completely trust the spy (who Jerry tases in his mother’s basement and who has a connection to the terrorist she’s has told them about), the group still manages to recover the intel before it hits the black market.
Against Danny (Scott Caan) wishes, and to McGarrett‘s (Alex O’Loughlin) amusement, Grover (Chi McBride) takes Danny’s mother (Melanie Griffith) on a ride along which includes trips to the shooting range, and acting crime scene where a bomb has been found, police museum, and Kamekona‘s (Taylor Wily) shrimp truck. The episode also includes a scene between McGarrett and Grover as Five-0’s commander confides in his new friend about the demons which still haunt him and another scene concerning the fallout from Jerry’s help that earns McGarrett a temporary new roommate.
The B-story involving Danny’s mother is given a little too much attention for my tastes. Garcia’s return is fun, and I’m happy to see that Jerry will be sticking around for at least one more episode. Also worth noting is the rotating members of Five-0 not included in any given episode since Kono‘s (Grace Park) return continues as Chin Ho (Daniel Dae Kim) is oddly absent this time around. I’m beginning to think the writers have only so many lines and honestly can’t figure out how to spread them to one more person.
