- Title: Halo – Emergence

The third episode of Halo is primarily focused on introducing the new character of Cortana (Jen Taylor), the artificial intelligence that is implanted inside Master Chief‘s (Pablo Schreiber) mind. Rightfully freaked out, and consistently annoyed by the AI’s attempts to help, eventually the Master Chief does some find some use for the program which helps him experience human emotion for the first time since he was a child, unlock more memories from the artifact, and find the world the needs to return to in order to find more answers and a second artifact he connected to as a child.
We get to separate B-stories, aside from the various politics and gamesmanship with the UNSC. Back in the asteroid field, Kwan (Yerin Ha) makes a decision to return to Madrigal. And Makee (Charlie Murphy) begins the Covenant‘s plan to recover the holy relic by laying a trap for a UNSC ship in deep space. Most of the action of the episode takes place in Makee’s subplot where despite her minions overrunning and killing the crew with ease, she’s left no closer to the artifact than when the episode started. She to continues on towards Madrigal, perhaps setting up a meeting between Makee and Kwan.
