After skipping the morning partners meeting Jared (Breckin Meyer) and Peter (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) find themselves defending a chop shop mechanic (Gino Anthony Pesi) who brutally beat several other members of the crew in self-defense after the others refused to let him leave to start a new life and save a witness (Colleen Foy) to one of the crew’s robberies. Besides having almost no legal merit to stand on things get even trickier when an Assistant D.A. (Brian Howe) with a grudge against Peter, and plans on running for District Attorney, takes over the high profile case.
This week also marks Infeld Daniels welcoming in a series of interns who begin shadowing the partners. Hanna (Garcelle Beauvais) gets the attractive Sasha (Jenn Korbee) who turns the head of all the male lawyers in the firm. Franklin and Bash get the more buttoned down heart-on-her-sleeve Bonnie (Danielle Panabaker) who signs on to help the pair choose the perfect jury for a self-defense case that quickly turns into a run at jury nullification in the name of love. However, their legal maneuverings aren’t helped when their choice of love-struck newlywed (Cameron Goodman) necessary to help swing the jury their way becomes a man-hater overnight and they discover their client also has a girlfriend he hasn’t told them about.
With the entire show devoted to to jury selection and strategy we don’t get to opening arguments until the closing credits. This, along with the inclusion of an intern, gives the episode a slightly different feel as we’re shown much more of Franklin and Bash’s prep work and far less of their courtroom antics (though we do get a couple of those as well as the pair play the Assistant D.A.’s instincts against him and find a way to have him introduce their shaky defense for them, making it all the more viable).
