Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Watson (Lucy Liu) help the NYPD investigate the murder of an archaeologist who was digging up a former landfill searching for vintage copies of an old video game collectors are willing to pay $10,000 for. Although the video games were the reason for his excavation, they weren’t the cause of his murder. What the victim found while searching for his treasure wasn’t worth killing for but, for the murderer, it was worth killing to keep quiet.
While the murder of the week provides the kinds of twist and turns fans of the show have come to expect, “The Games Underfoot” also marks the return of Sherlock’s former sponsor Alfredo (Ato Essandoh) who our detective hadn’t seen since last year’s finale. There are multiple scenes of Holmes and Alfredo discussing both Holmes changing his meeting habits and Alfredo’s struggles following his kidnapping (which Holmes has to uncover on his own).
