- Title: Elementary – Hemlock

As a frustrated Watson (Lucy Liu) comes to the conclusion that Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) may have been right about her love life, the two detectives accept a new case involving a former lawyer who had become a debt collector after being fired from his firm. With a suspect pool that includes thousands of angry potential murderers all drowning in debt, Holmes and Watson begin searching for a needle in a haystack beginning (and ending) back at the lawyer’s former firm.
The case of the week is again solid as the true motive for murder is obscured until the end of the episode. However, the biggest moment of “Hemlock” (from which the episode takes its name) isn’t from the main storyline but Joan’s B-story involving her relationship with Andrew (Raza Jaffrey). After choosing to dump the man following a pleasant dinner with Andrew and his father (Brian George), Watson is horrified to see the man she still cares for is poisoned in front of her eyes.
In a season of big events Andrew’s murder (attempted or successful) offers yet another catalyst for change pushing Sherlock and Watson back together under the brownstone as partners once more. It will be interesting to see how long the case takes the detectives to solve or if it lingers over the course of the season.
