- Title: Doctor Who – The Legend of Ruby Sunday

Setting up the season finale, “The Legend of Ruby Sunday” tackles two mysteries as The Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) return to Earth and enlist the help of U.N.I.T. The episode allows for the return of several characters including Mel (Bonnie Langford), Kate Stewart (Jemma Redgrave), Rose Noble (Yasmin Finney), and the mysterious woman who The Doctor has seen throughout time now revealed to be entrepreneur Susan Triad (Susan Twist) on the verge of releasing her life’s work. Working as a bit of a red herring, the possibility that Susan Triad my be The Doctor’s granddaughter distracts him from the truth as does tackling two mysteries at once attempting to discern the identity of Ruby’s mother.
The Ruby thread of the story involves using an old video tape and modern U.N.I.T. technology, along with a little help from The Doctor, to peer into the past. While it doesn’t reveal the identity of Ruby’s mother, there’s obviously something odd about her and that night including a mysterious cloud taking shape around the TARDIS and returning to the present where the villain for the finale will be revealed. The episode is quite packed, and effect heavy, setting up our mystery villain by pulling back a classic Doctor Who character just as the series did for one of its Christmas specials involving the Toymaker. Heading into the finale, the villain from “Pyramids of Mars” has returned and The Doctor will be force to match his wits against Sutekh (Gabriel Woolf).
