Throwback Tuesday takes us back into the Cold War spycraft of Danger Man. Trouble finds John Drake (Patrick McGoohan), even on holiday. Narrowly escaping being sent to Korea before setting off on his first vacation in years, Drake makes it to Rio only to be dragged into a local matter involving a top-secret British submarine that has crashed on the coast. Sent in without back-up, Drake’s mission is simple: find and destroy. The situation is complicated when a local family alerts other interested parties to the sub’s location, leading Drake to improvise and buy just enough time to destroy the secret technology using unreliable explosives before it can fall into enemy hands. The episode is bookended in a pair of humorous scenes that show even a patriot like Drake knows how to play the game in order to get a well-deserved vacation (or lengthen his stay in Rio a little longer).
