In Covert Affairs‘ season finale Annie’s (Piper Perabo) vacation getaway to Stockholm doesn’t go quite as planned. First, her sister Danielle (Anne Dudek) comes along after learning her husband has been cheating on her and decides to use the opportunity to reconnect with a friend from her youth (Joakim Nätterqvist). And second, Auggie (Christopher Gorham) calls with an assignment to deliver a CIA package concerning a rogue spy (Greg Bryk) during a gala.
Things get even more sticky when Danielle is mistaken as for her sister during the drop-off, and the agents (Andrew Jackson, Freya Ravensbergen) Annie was working with all turn up dead. In a last-ditch escape plan Annie enlists the help of Danielle’s old friend, but she will still have to go toe-to-toe with another spy to get her sister safely out of the country.
The episode’s B-story involves an investigation into one of Arthur’s (Peter Gallagher) projects which involved his ex-wife (Rena Sofer) puts him in hot water with Joan (Kari Matchett), provides an opportunity of advancement for Jai (Sendhil Ramamurthy), and a possible way back into the CIA for Henry Wilcox (Gregory Itzin). However, Jai’s actual move no one sees coming.
The series’ Second Season comes to a close seeing Annie cross a line to save herself and her sister, admit her feelings (to herself at least) about Auggie, and get a brand-spanking new ride. Covert Affairs has had a strong sophomore year which has seen its heroine struggle and flourish with new challenges and opportunities. Here’s hoping we get more of the same when the show returns for its Third Season next summer.
