- Title: Continuum – Minute by Minute
- wiki: link
And you thought things were complicated before. Season Three begins with Kiera (Rachel Nichols) imprisoned by the Freelancers and Alec (Erik Knudsen) successfully travelling one week into the past in hopes of preventing Emily‘s (Magda Apanowicz) death. Given the unique situation the leader of the Freelancers (Rachael Crawford) offers Kiera a truce, explaining that the self-appointed “guardians of history” are not time travelers themselves, although they are descended from one who started their order more than 1,ooo years ago.
Initially refusing their offer, Kiera decides to attempt a prison break with Garza (Luvia Petersen), but when that fails, and reality starts falling apart around her, she begins to reconsider the offer from the Freelancers’ leader. Meanwhile, one week in the past Alec tries to stay away from his past self while altering enough history to stop Emily’s death. One week in the future Catherine (Crawford) tells Kiera the series of events the second Alec has put into motion, if not corrected, will completely rewrite Kiera’s future.
One consequence of Alec’s time jump back into the past is allowing a forewarned Kellog (Stephen Lobo) to get ahead of Mr. Escher (Hugh Dillon) and eliminate one threat permanently. With no other options Kiera joins the Freelancers and travels back in time to restore the timeline both she and the group want. To do so, however, Kiera will have to choose between which Alec makes that future more likely to come to fruition and which version of her friend will only get in the way.
“Minute by Minute” lays some nice groundwork with Kiera choosing to pay her debt to a different version of Garza than the one who tried to help her. It also ends on a cliffhanger as both future versions of Kiera and Alec stumble upon the present version of Kiera murdered in the lab. I can guess where this initial arc of the season will lead and what Kiera will have to do with the Alec from her own timeline, but I’ll be interested to see events unfold and see if the show surprises me in its choices. And with all attention on Alec and the hard choices Kiera will be forced to make, who will be watching Liber8 and keeping tabs on their continued agenda to change the future?
