- Title: Charlie’s Angels – Angel Baby

Throwback Thursday takes us back to the tale of three beautiful former police officers turned private detectives working for a faceless boss known as Charlie. A friend (Scott Colomby) from Kelly‘s (Jaclyn Smith) past, gone AWOL in search of his missing girlfriend (Sunny Johnson), puts the Angels on a case involving black market babies. Kelly goes in undercover as a pregnant woman looking to sell her baby after its birth. Sabrina (Kate Jackson) and Bosley (David Doyle) pose as an entitled rich couple willing to pay whatever price is necessary to procure the baby of their choice. And in a separate thread, Kris (Cheryl Ladd) tackles a different end of the operation finding herself propositioned to giving birth to the scam’s big commodity.
Given the different aspects of the case, “Angel Baby” offers a more complex plot than most of the episodes of the series to this point. Although the case comes through a friend of Kelly, the episode is notable mostly for Kris’ storyline which puts her on her own without backup for much of the episode, and ends in her shooting a murderer in self-defense. While the episode uses Charlie’s dialogue over the intercom to suggest the man survived, its obvious given Ladd’s emotional scene, and the lack of the Angels reacting to all of the information from Charlie’s obviously dubbed dialogue, what the original ending of the episode was meant to be. It’s sad the show felt the need to lighten to mood at the end to lessen such a strong sequence.
