The Jeffersonian team is called in to investigate the murder of a television producer (Danielle Harris) found in the basement of an abandoned building with mushrooms growing out of her remains. The case leads Bones (Emily Deschanel) and Booth (David Boreanaz) to the TV judge (Gina Hecht) of small claims court where the victim worked. Suspects include the victim’s replacement (Allison Scagliotti), the victim’s ex-boyfriend (Jason Gerhardt), her stalker (David Petruzzi), the judge whose on-air drinking problem may have come between her and the victim, and an angry contestant (Rose Colasanti) who blamed the victim for loosing her case on national television.
In other stories, Bones refuses to accept the fact that Christine bit another child in day care or that her exceptional daughter could be capable of anything such as “average” behavior. Bones even goes so far as to ask Angela (Michaela Conlin) to hack into the day care’s security cameras to find proof of Christine’s innocence. And after devouring the last of Finn’s (Luke Kleintank) dead grandmother’s secret sauce Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) tries to make it him by analyzing what’s left to try and create a new batch.
After Finn discovers the method of death, and Bones’ reconstructs the circumstances accounting to the victim’s various injuries, the FBI have their killer. Hodgins and Finn also get some good news of their own when they convince chef Susan Feniger to agree to help market “Opie and Thurston’s Hot Sauce.” Although Bones is able to bully her way through the meeting with the day care’s supervisor she is forced to reexamine the facts when Christine bites her mother as well to cap of this goofy but mostly unremarkable episode.
