- Title: Bones – The Cheat in the Retreat
- wiki: link
As Cam (Tamara Taylor) deals with identity theft, Sweets (John Francis Daley) considers taking a leave from the FBI, and Booth (David Boreanaz) and Bones (Emily Deschanel) go undercover to investigate the murder of a Korean management consultant whose remains were found half-eaten by a bobcat on Indian tribal land. While stuck in group therapy with quibbling couples (John Ratzenberger, Millicent Martin and Greg Rikaart, Tim Peper) the pair investigate with the woman (Carrie Wiita) the victim was staying with at the couples retreat who was the man’s mistress and not his wife (Brittany Ishibashi).
As Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) and Angela (Michaela Conlin) help narrow down the actual crime scene and the method used for killing the consultant, while taking time out to help Cam (whether she wants it or not), Booth and Bones are stuck going through a ridiculous set of couples’ trials including an obstacle course and sweat lodge and realize that despite their own issues they are far better matched than the other couples at the retreat. Although the evidence seems to point to the man’s wife Hodgins discovers continues digging to find the team the real killers.
The madcap adventures at the retreat run by a scam artist (Yancey Arias) fall mostly flat, as do the over-the-top undercover accents of Booth and Bones, although the episode does deliver a nice twist and an even better confession to the crime. Given how much time the episode spends on the Cam subplot, and its multiple mentions of how long a process it is to right the wrong of identity theft, it will be interesting to see how long the season stays with the story before it eventually fades into the background.
