- Title: Batman: The Animated Series – Be a Clown

In honor of Batman‘s 75th Anniversary we turn out attention back to the Dark Knight’s more memorable moments on the big and small screen with another episode from Batman: The Animated Series. An offhand comment by Mayor Hill (Lloyd Bochner) comparing the Joker (Mark Hamill) to Batman (Kevin Conroy) gets under the Clown Prince of Crime’s skin inspiring the criminal to crash the birthday party of Hill’s son Jordan (Justin Shenkarow) as Jekko the Clown (Jim Cummings).
Through a bit of clumsiness Bruce Wayne manages to stop the clown’s explosive final magic trick but Jordan runs away with the clown leading to a roller coaster sequence which would later be recreated in The Adventures of Batman and Robin SNES video game. “Be a Clown” isn’t among the most memorable Joker episodes but it does illustrate the pettiness of the Joker and how easily the character can take offense at the smallest of possible slights. The episode also begins a recurring theme of showcasing the Dark Knight’s talent at escaping death traps as the Joker locks a straight-jacketed Batman upside down in a water tank.
